Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Work Hours
The MBTA's contractor, LM Heavy Civil Construction, and sub-contractors are working at Wollaston Station during these shifts:

Bus shuttles replace train service between North Quincy and Braintree during the following times:
- Through August 1, 2019: Sundays – Thursdays after 8:45 PM
- July 27 – 28, 2019: All day Saturday and Sunday
Parking Lot Access
Starting Monday, July 8, 2019, the northeast section of the Wollaston parking lot (next to the construction trailer) will be closed for about 3 weeks.
Cars can park in the section of the lot bordering Beale St—as you enter the lot, this is on the left side. Please note overnight parking is not allowed.
Temporary pedestrian detour signs will be in place. Please use public streets—Weston Ave, Woodbine St, and Greenwood Ave—to reach the station or bus stops on Beale St.
Construction Activities
Weekday Shift
- Landscaping is underway with new trees and shrubs
- Station platform: Install signage, lighting, and stainless steel on support columns.
- East headhouse and lobby (station entrance from parking lot):
- Exterior: Panel installation, place granite steps
- Interior: Tile and signs, paint, lights, communication, PA, security
- Pedestrian bridge: Interior walls and floor
- Newport Ave: Install rubber roof and granite steps, complete trench drains, complete sidewalks, install new fencing, and complete station entrance
- Parking lot: Open for commuter parking during phased parking lot restoration
- Ongoing work:
- Elevator, escalator and stairway work
- Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, glazing/tile, and masonry work in all sections of the station
- New sidewalk construction adjacent to station
Weekend Shift
- Continue interior work
- Plumbing, electrical, and fire protection
- Doors, roof, and windows
Night Shift
- Station platform pedestrian bridge and roof work continues
- Install electrical conduit and new lighting; paint area
- Electrical, plumbing carpentry, glazing/tile, and masonry work continues
- Install benches, signage, and trash barrels
Night construction activities will create noise and may be disruptive. Please email wollaston@mbta.com with any concerns.
Landscaping
Final landscaping is currently underway. Over 150 trees, 800 shrubs, and various types of ground cover are being planted.
Trees (including red maple, red bud, arborvitae, honey locust, Chinese juniper, and a few variety of oaks) along with a number of shrubs (including Virginia sweet spire, fire red dogwood, red sprite winterberry and fragrant sumac) are being placed in planting beds along the parking lot perimeter from Beale St, along Greenwood Ave to the corner of Weston Ave and Woodbine St.
Over the next few weeks, plantings will continue on either side of the station's main entrance and will be installed in the middle of the parking lot parallel to Old Colony Ave.
