Safety Notice: Test Trains Now Running on South Coast Rail

Updated on June 14, 2024

Commuter rail coach at Freetown Station

We are now running test trains along the South Coast Rail, with train speeds reaching up to 79 miles per hour. For the first time in decades, Commuter Rail test trains will run to and from Middleborough, East Taunton, Freetown, Fall River and New Bedford.

Commuter Rail trains travel much faster than freight trains, so proceed with caution while crossing the tracks.

Safety Information

Trains are quieter and faster than you think. A train traveling 55 mph can take a mile or more to stop.

Remember:

  1. The only safe place to cross train tracks is at designated crossings. Obey warning signs and signals posted at crossing locations.
  2. Don't walk on or along the tracks. It’s both illegal and life threatening.
  3. Using the railroad track area to hunt, fish, operate snowmobiles or ATVs, or for any other recreational purpose is trespassing and extremely dangerous.
